The Aces improved to 19-4-2 on the season, and 11-0-2 in their last 13 contests. The Aces and Reign will continue their series on Saturday night and Sunday evening to complete the home stand. The teams played a scoreless period to open the game with Ontario getting the majority of the chances and shots on goals. They outshot Alaska 11-5 in the frame, but it stayed 0-0 heading into the second. That's when the Aces took over control of the game on the power play. Steve Ward broke the scoreless tie with a wrist shot through a screen that floated past Chris Carrozzi and into the net at 6:10 for a power play goal. The Aces added to the lead when Ward found Garry Nunn at the inside edge of the left circle, and Nunn scored on a one-timer at 17:38 to make it 2-0. Alaska outshot Ontario 14-10 in the period.
The Reign made it a game in the third when Kevin Estrada scored his first goal with the Reign cutting to the crease from the right circle and stuffing a puck past Coleman at 7:41 to make it 2-1 Aces. The Aces, however, put the game away three minutes later when Wes Goldie converted a two-on-one with Brian Swanson at 10:42 to extend his individual goal scoring streak to four games, and point streak to six. Coleman and company held the Reign at bay the rest of the night, earning the 3-1 win.
Gerald Coleman (15-3-1) earned the win, making 33 saves on 34 shots, and Chris Carrozzi (1-5-1) made 21 saves on 24 shots, taking the loss. The Aces power play went 2-6, while the Reign went 0-3. Alaska was outshot by Ontario 34-24 in the game.
The Aces and Reign continue their series on Saturday night and Sunday evening to complete the home stand. There will be a special jersey auction of Hawaiian themed jerseys on Saturday night. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, please call the Aces at 907.258.ACES or visit them online at www.facebook.com/alaskaaceshockey.
