
Royals Acquire Forward and Defenseman

Reading, PA â The Reading Royals, affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings and AHL's Manchester Monarchs, have announced that they have acquired forward Preston Mizzi from the Dayton Bombers and Joe Markusen from the Long Beach Ice Dogs. Details of the trades were not disclosed. The Colorado Avalanche (NHL) have reconsidered their assignment of left wing Sergei Klyazmin.
Preston Mizzi is entering his fourth season as a professional. The Sault Ste. Marie native has appeared in 14 games with the Dayton Bombers and tallied two goals and five points with 32 penalty minutes this season. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound forward has also skated with the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies, and Pee Dee Pride in the ECHL. Mizzi also brings 31 games of American Hockey League experience to Reading. He has appeared in 201 professional games heading into this season and racked up 53 goals and 142 points with 312 penalty minutes. Mizzi is expected in the lineup tonight and will wear sweater #20.
Joe Markusen has only appeared in one game this season with the Long Beach Ice Dogs. The 24-year-old defenseman finished a four-year stint at Michigan State University of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In 155 games, the stay-at-home defenseman scored three goals and 30 points with 142 minutes in penalties. Prior to his MSU career, Markusen skated with Lincoln and Fargo-Moorhead of the United State Hockey League. The rookie defenseman is expected to join the club next week.
The Reading Royals are entering their fourth season in Reading, Pennsylvania after relocating from Columbus, Ohio. The Royals enjoyed their first Kelly Cup playoff appearance last season, claiming the Northern Division Title and were one win away from qualifying for the Kelly Cup Finals. The Royals and the City of Reading are proud to be hosting the 13th annual ECHL All-Star Game and Skills Competition presented by Coors Light on January 25 and 26.
Reading returns to the ice this weekend with a pair of games against the Trenton Titans. Tonight, Reading hosts Trenton at 7:05 p.m. in the Sovereign Center. Fans are encouraged to bring teddy bears to the game for the Annual Teddy Bear Toss after the Royals first goal! Plus, the first 3,000 fans through the gate receive a t-shirt courtesy of Chevrolet â An American Revolution. The Titans and Royals meet in Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Follow all the Royals action on the Casa Grande Royals Radio Network beginning at 6:35 with the Classic Café pregame show!
