
San Diego Set To Host Defending Champs

SAN DIEGO â The San Diego Gulls attempt to win their third straight as they welcome the defending Kelly Cup Champion Idaho Steelheads to town. The two West Division rivals will also square off Saturday and Sunday at the Sports Arena.
SERIES HISTORY:
This is the first of eight meetings between the Gulls and Steelheads this season. The two teams clashed 10 times last season with San Diego holding an 8-1-1 series edge. The Gulls were 5-0-0 against Idaho at home last season.

GULLS UPDATE:
The Gulls (6-5-2) have won two straight and enter the day sixth in the West Division with 14 points, 10 behind the first-place Bakersfield Condors... San Diego, however, has played the fewest games in the division... The Gulls are 5-0-1 at home this season, but just 1-5-1 on the road... In their six wins, the Blue and Orange have outscored their opponents 32-13. They've been outscored 23-8 in their seven losses (which includes an overtime and shootout loss)... The Gulls were 7-4-2 through 13 games last season... Tonight is the third of a season-high nine-game homestand...
OTHER NOTES:
Darren Clark, who was named the Gulls' Player of the Month for November, leads the club with 13 points (5g, 8a)... Evgueni Nourislamov has five points in his last two games (2g, 3a)... Rookie Guillaume Fournier has five points (2g, 3a) in his last three games... The Gulls have out-shot their opponents 119-63 in the last three games...
IDAHO UPDATE:
Idaho (10-5-1) is winless in its last two games and begins the day tied with the Alaska Aces for second place in the West Division, three points behind Bakersfield... The Steelheads have two games in hand on the Aces, but have played two more games than the Condors... Rookie goaltender Frank Doyle is fifth in the ECHL with a 1.60 goals-against average and is tied for third overall with two shutouts... Idaho has the second best penalty killing unit in the league (90.2 percent)... Including tonight, the Steelheads play eight of their next 10 games on the road...
TRANSACTIONS:
Sean O'Connor was returned from the American Hockey League's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks on Tuesday... Sean Murphy, suffering from a fractured knuckle, was transferred to the 30-day injured list, retroactive to Nov. 27... Scott Borders is scheduled to come off injured reserve tomorrow...
