
Gladiators Outlast Grrrowl in Shootout, 3-2

Rick Emmett's fifth round shootout goal lifted the Gwinnett Gladiators to a 3-2 shooutout win over the Greenville Grrrowl on Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Chris Durno gave the Gladiators a 1-0 lead 4:22 into the first period. Rick Emmett slid the puck into the slot were Chris Durno picked up the loose puck and ripped it past Greenville netminder Mike Brodeur. Brett Engelhardt also picked up an assist on the goal for the Gladiators.
J.F. Ploured tied the game at one with the Grrrowls first shorthanded goal of the season at 13:11 of the second period. Jason Metcalfe picked up an assist on the goal as he fliped the puck into the neutral zone past the Gladiators defenesman where Plourde picked up the loose puck and came in on the breakaway on Gladiators goaltender T.J. Aceti.
Gwinnett regained the lead with 3:33 left in the second period on Brett Engelhardt's second effort in front of Greenville net giving the Gladiators a 2-1 lead. Jim Jackson picked up an assist on the goal as he was able to intercept a Greenville clearing attempt and push the puck into the slot to set up the goal.
Greenville again took advantage of a Gladiators defensive turnover to tie the game at 2 early in the final period. Martin St. Pierre slipped past a pinching Gladiators defenseman and slid down the left wing wall in on a breakway and rolled the puck past Aceti at 6:33 of the first period. Colin Pepperall added an assist on the tally.
The Gladiators went 0-for-6 on the power play while T.J. Aceti made 26 saves to help the Gladiators improve to 9-3-4 on the season.
The Central Division Champion Gwinnett Gladiators continue their second season at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Friday, December 3rd at 7:35 p.m. as they host the Greenville Grrrowl.
