Florida Everblades News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades (9-9-0) won their third straight game with a 3-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays (8-11-1) on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston, SC. The loss dropped the Stingrays to the fifth straight loss.
After a quiet first period which saw the two teams each take 11 shots, with none finding the back of the net, the Everblades collected a pair of goals in the second period to get the scoring started. Kris Vernarsky opened the scoring at 6:29 of the second period when he scooped up a loose puck in the neutral zone and raced in on Stingrays net minder Kirk Daubenspeck before slipped a backhander into the net. The 'Blades held that lead until late in the period when Matt Hendricks jammed home a shot from behind the right post with just 13.9 seconds remaining in the middle period.
The third period opened with the teams skating four-on-four, and saw the Stingrays pick up their first goal in over five periods when Mark Ardelan picked up a rebound off a blocked shot and deposited the puck into the net just 46 seconds into the period. A wide open third period, which saw Florida outshoot South Carolina 20-14, ended with Tim O'Connell firing the puck into the empty South Carolina net giving Florida a 3-1 advantage.
Kowalski earned his third straight win in net for the 'Blades by turning away 33 of 34 South Carolina shots, bringing his record to 6-4-0. Daubenspeck suffered the tough-luck loss allowing two goals on 45 Florida shots, which brought his record to 5-8-1. Florida finished the night 0-for-2 on the power play, while the Stingrays finished 0-for-1 on the man advantage.
Florida continues their four-game road trip on Saturday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. when they take on the Pee Dee Pride at the Florence Civic Center.
