Myrtle Beach Thunderboltz News Release
FLORENCE, SC -- The Pee Dee Pride won for the fifth straight outing, and improved to 7-0-1 over their last eight games, with a 3-2 shootout win over the Charlotte Checkers in front of 2,253 fans on Friday at the Florence Civic Center.
After nearly two scoreless periods, Charlotte drew first blood with a power-play tally at 16:47 of the middle frame as Brandon Cullen slid a shot past Pride goaltender Nick Boucher. The goal ended Boucher's shut-out streak at 134:05.
Pee Dee tied the game at 7:52 of the final period as Brian Collins got free down low and beat Alex Westlund for his team-leading 11th goal of the season.
The Pride took their first lead of the night at 13:00 as Gregg Johnson beat Westlund for his third tally of the season.
But, the Checkers tied the game just 43 seconds later on a Mike Harder tally. That sent the game to overtime, and eventually, a shootout.
It was all Pride in the shootout, as Boucher stopped all three shooters he faced, and Collins, Johnson and Chad Spurr found the back of the net.
Boucher was impressive in net once again. Coming off a 34-save performance in a 3-0 shutout at Greenville on Tuesday, the reigning ECHL Goalie of the Week stopped 36 shots to improve to 7-2-2 on the season.
Saturday, the Pride host the Florida Everblades at 7:30 p.m. The weekend wraps up on Sunday with a 2:30 matinee against the Everblades. It's the first Sunday Kids' Day of the season, with 200 and 400 level seats for kids 12 and under just $2.50. Kids' meals (hot dog, chips, soda) are also available for $2.50.
Tickets for all Pride home games are available at the Florence Civic Center Box Office, or through TicketMaster at (843) 679-9333 or www.ticketmaster.com.
