St. Cloud Rox News Release

THUNDER BAY (Ont)-The St Cloud Rox staged a late comeback Thursday night at Thunder Bay but ultimately came up short in an 11-10 loss. The Rox trailed the game 10-3 through seven innings before the last gasp rally.

Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh) was 2-5 with three RBI, Erik Kozel (Colorado Mesa) had a double and a pair of RBI and Chris Paul (California) hit a two-run double to lead the Rox.

After the Border Cats scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, the Rox responded with a run to tie the game. Mark Rhine (Wake Forest) hit a sacrifice fly to score Adam Martin (Western Carolina) for the tying run.

Thunder Bay scored two more runs in response to take a 3-1 lead to the fifth.

The Rox tied the games with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning but the deadlock would prove to be short lived.

The Border Cats exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fifth to seemingly take command of the game at 9-3. They added a single run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-3 lead in to the eighth inning.

St. Cloud got four runs in the top of the eighth with Boo Vazquez (Pittsburgh) hitting a two-run single and Erik Kozel (Colorado Mesa) adding a two-run double to cut the Thunder Bay lead to 10-7. Thunder Bay scored a single run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to take a four run lead to the ninth.

The Rox rallied once again in the game's final inning and nearly were able to pull off an improbable comeback. With two outs and the bases loaded, Rhine singled home two runners to make the score 11-9 with runners on the corners. Vazquez followed with another RBI single to cut the Border Cats lead to a single run.

However, the Rox could not close the gap and fell by a final score of 11-10.
