Green Bay Rockers News Release
Despite an early lead in Wausau, the Bullfrogs fell to 6-12 in the second half of the Northwoods League season with a 4-2 loss to the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Thursday night.
Green Bay led for the first and only time in the top of the first inning. With two outs, Ransom LaLonde singled home Brooks Orton to give Green Bay 1-0 advantage. The Woodchucks were in control throughout the rest of the game. Eric Filia-Snyder hit his fourth home run of the year, a solo shot, to tie the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first frame.
Wisconsin tacked on three more in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Brad McKewon doubled and later scored on an error by Green Bay right-fielder Collin Shaw. After Mike Bernal singled and Madison Carter reached on an error, designated hitter Brenden Hayden singled both of them home to give the Woodchucks a 4-1 lead.
The game remained scoreless until the ninth when the Bullfrogs rallied to bring home one. Alex Abrams reached on an error to begin the inning, Collin Shaw reached on a walk and Brooks Orton later singled to right field to load the bases. After Billy Moon flied out to center field for the second out of the inning, Justin Seager walked home Abrams to cut the Wisconsin lead to 4-2. Ransom LaLonde then grounded out with the bases still full to end the game.
Parker Schrage (0-2) took the loss for the Bullfrogs. He gave up three earned runs over five innings while striking out two and walking no one. Ben Graff, Mac Acker, and David Armendariz each pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Bullfrogs.
Three players were injured during play, and two were forced to leave the game. The Bullfrogs' Ransom LaLonde was hit by a pitch in his left wrist. He was shaken up but able to remain in the game. For the Woodchucks, Eric Filia-Snyder was involved in a collision with fellow outfielder Brad McKewon. Filia-Snyder was down for about ten minutes and had to be carried off the field. First-baseman Jake Jelmini collided with the Bullfrogs' Justin Seager at first base. Seager was uninjured on the play, but Jelmini was forced to leave after the next play. Jelmini and Filia-Snyder's injuries came on back-to-plays.
The Bullfrogs will play game two of this three-game series tomorrow at Athletic Park in Wausau. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM. You can listen to the game live at greenbaybullfrogs.com or watch live at northwoodsleague.tv.
