Jack Fischer Shuts out Green Bay, 'Chucks Tip Toe Away 1-0

With just one run scored, the Bullfrogs shutout can be credited to Jack Fischer who went six innings, with seven strike outs and no earned runs as the Woodchucks carried on for their 15th straight home win.

After four consecutive strike outs to begin the game by Green Bay's ace Harry Stanwyck, the Woodchucks broke things open with a standup double by Joe Serrano to lead off the bottom of the second inning. Nate Irving, reached on a wild pitch-strike out that advanced Serrano to third. Serrano finally came around to score when Brad McKewon grounded to Jason McMurray who bobbled the ball and errored, putting the Woodchucks up 1-0 in the second inning.

After four and ½ innings of play, Fischer allowed zero runs, on one hit, and seven strikeouts as the "˜Chucks maintained the slim 1-0 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. After six complete innings, Fischer struck out seven, allowed no runs, and gave up just one hit in another outstanding outing.

It was a pitchers duel, as the Bullfrogs remained scoreless through seven innings, and the Woodchucks, unable to put up another run since the second inning, cruised through with a one run lead.

In the top of the eighth inning however, the Green Bay Bullfrogs gave Woodchucks fans a scare once again, loading the bases with two gone as Brooks Orton stepped to the plate in effort to grab the lead.

Pascal Paul got the go ahead to relieve Brett Higginbotham and successfully got out of the jam, getting Orton to ground to second for the third out.

The game would come down to the ninth inning with Pascal Paul dealing once again, trying to close down the Bullfrogs. Pascal struck out Justin Seager chasing, and then got Justin Seager to chase leaving Nick Stein to change the shutout.

With opportunity arising, Stein walked on a full count sending Jason McMurray to the plate. On the first pitch, McMurray was plunked putting two potential runs on the bases.

On the second pitch, Chris Hoo grounded out to Mike Bernal where he would fire to first base, one hopping the ball as Chevas Numata scooped just in time to end the ball game. Woodchucks walked away with the 1-0 win and continued their 15 game home winning streak.
