Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Caleb Gindl was 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBI in leading the Nashville Sounds to a 5-2 victory over the Round Rock Express in Friday night's Pacific Coast League action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (63-71) snapped a four-game winning streak, while the Sounds (62-72) won for only the fifth time in 22 games at The Dell Diamond since the beginning of the 2010 season.
Gindl's two-out RBI single in the second broke a scoreless tie, and the Sounds never relinquished the lead. Nashville added a pair of runs in the third on Khris Davis' sacrifice fly and Jordan Brown's RBI single. Gindl doubled to open the fourth and later scored on Corey Patterson's groundout.
Round Rock did not scratch the scoreboard until the sixth inning. The Express loaded the bases with no outs on successive walks from Yangervis Solarte, Leonys Martin and Brad Nelson. Solarte scored on a Joey Butler fielder's choice, and Martin scored when second baseman Eric Farris' attempt to get Butler at first skipped away.
That was the end of the offense for the Express, who were held to five or fewer runs for the 10th time in their last 11 home games. Nashville added an insurance run in eighth when Andy Gonzalez walked and scored on a Gindl double.
Sounds starter Hiram Burgos (1-2) earned the win, limiting the Express to two runs - one earned - on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts over five-plus innings. He left the game after walking the bases loaded in the sixth. Five relievers finished the game for Nashville. Rob Wooten worked a perfect ninth for his fifth save.
Express starter Justin Grimm (2-3) suffered the loss, his second in as many starts and third in his last four starts. He has lost each of his last three starts at The Dell Diamond. Grimm allowed four runs on nine hits and a walk over five and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts. Koji Uehara had one strikeout and surrendered a two-out double in a scoreless inning of rehab relief.
Butler was 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 12 games. Solarte finished 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. Matt Kata (1-for-4) played his 404th career game with the Express, one shy of Mark Saccomanno's franchise record (Triple-A era).
Sean Halton added a pair of hits for the Sounds, who avoided their first three-game skid since late July.
Round Rock and Nashville continue their five-game series Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Left-hander Martin Perez (7-6, 4.11 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Claudio Vargas (6-1, 3.58 ERA) is slotted for the Sounds.
