Tommy Field's three-run double in the eighth inning put the Colorado Springs Sky Sox ahead for good on Thursday, as they defeated the Tucson Padres 6-4 at Kino Stadium.
Tucson jumped ahead in the first inning with three runs on three hits. Anthony Contreras brought home the first run with an RBI single to center field and Eddy Rodriguez's two-run double down the left field gave the Padres a 3-0 lead. Colorado Springs' Brandon Roberts struck an RBI single to right in the fifth to give the Sky Sox their first run of the game.
The Sky Sox took the lead in a nine-batter top of the eighth, scoring five runs on four hits and one error. Field's bases clearing double to center began the scoring, Chad Tracy hit a RBI double and later scored off a throwing error by Contreras to give the Sky Sox a 6-3 advantage. Jedd Gyorko blasted a solo shot in the bottom of ninth to bring the Padres within two runs, but Colorado Springs' Coty Woods finished off the inning for his tenth save. The home run was Gyorko's fourth consecutive game with a home run. Mike Ekstrom earned his third win in relief Sky Sox starter Nick Schmidt. Anthony Bass started the game for Tucson, and pitched two perfect innings, striking out one. Bass is down from San Diego rehabbing from right shoulder inflammation. Ross Ohlendorf made his Tucson debut, going five innings and striking out eight. Jorge Reyes suffered his 11th loss for the Padres, surrendering two earned runs in one inning.
