Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Cubs (52-82) came alive at the plate late in the game, scoring three runs over the seventh and eighth innings to defeat the Oklahoma City RedHawks (70-63) 5-3 before 12,384 at Principal Park Friday night.

The RedHawks struck first in the third inning with a two-out RBI single by Jimmy Paredes.

Iowa took the lead in the fourth, using two errors, two walks, and a wild pitch to their advantage. Adrian Cardenas tied the game with an RBI groundout, and three batters later, Jeff Frazier put the Cubs in the lead with a broken-bat RBI single.

The RedHawks went back in front in the sixth. Yoanner Negrin's second wild pitch of the night allowed Paredes to score and tie the game with none out. With a runner at third and two away, Jose Martinez delivered an RBI single to give the RedHawks the lead.

Throughout the season series, the RedHawks have a put together a few late rallies against the Cubs. Iowa turned the tables Friday, scoring twice in the seventh to take the lead. Frazier led off with a double, and two batters later, former RedHawk Diory Hernandez tied the game with an RBI single.

With two outs, Tony Campana rocketed a triple off Brian Sanches (1-3) to right-center field to put the Cubs ahead 4-3.

Adrian Cardenas began the eighth inning with a solo homer to extend the lead to two. It was Cardenas' first homer since April 30.

It turns out Iowa didn't need the insurance run, as Jairo Asencio retired the side in order in the ninth to earn his fourth save. Three Cubs relievers combined to throw three scoreless and hitless innings, with Jay Jackson (3-7) earning the win.

The loss soured a great team debut by RedHawks pitcher Edgar Gonzalez. Recently signed as a free agent, Gonzalez went six innings, allowing two runs-both unearned-and two hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Paredes finished 3-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. He now has 50 multi-hit games on the season.
