Socolovich Arrives at Iowa

Des Moines, IA - Right-handed pitcher Miguel Socolovich joins the Iowa roster and will be available in the bullpen for tonight's game against Oklahoma City. He was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the Baltimore Orioles and optioned to Iowa yesterday.

The 26-year-old Caracas, Venezuela native boasted a 4-0 record with two saves and a 1.90 ERA (11 ER/52.0 IP) in 28 relief appearances through three stints with Triple-A Norfolk this season. Socolovich fanned 52 batters, while limiting opponents to a .179 battings average (33-for-184). He was named an International League mid-season All-Star after collecting both of his saves and posting a 1.77 ERA (9 ER/45.2 IP) through 24 games in the first half of the season.

Socolovich has no record and a 6.97 ERA (8 ER/10.1 IP) in six games through three tours with Baltimore on the year. He allowed one run on two hits and struck out a batter through one and two-thirds innings against the Detroit Tigers in his major league debut on July 14.

Originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Boston Red Sox in January of 2004, Socolovich is 36-27 with a 3.71 ERA (204 ER/494.2 IP) through 223 minor league outings (44 starts) in his career.

The Iowa Cubs and Oklahoma City RedHawks play game three of a five-game set tonight at Principal Park. The game starts at 7:05 p.m. and will be broadcast live on AM 940 beginning with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show at 6:45 p.m.
