Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- Daniel Cabrera registered a quality start for the Aces, but a first-inning Fresno home run stood up Friday night in a 2-0 Grizzlies victory over Reno at Aces Ballpark.
Brett Pill connected for a two-out, two-run homer in the first, putting the Grizzlies ahead 2-0 early. As it would turn out, that would be the end of the scoring on the evening for both clubs. Reno was held to just four hits and was shutout for the fifth time this season.
Cabrera (0-1) took the hard-luck loss, allowing just two runs on three hits with six strikeouts and no walks over 7.0 innings. After his exit, Matt Gorgen and Joe Paterson combined to keep the Grizzlies off the scoreboard over the game's final two innings.
The win went to Fresno reliever Mitch Lively (7-4), who worked two scoreless frames. Starter Brian Burres didn't qualify for the win, though he allowed just two hits over four shutout innings. Jean Machi worked around two hits to ring-up a scoreless ninth for his 14th save.
At the dish for Reno, Taylor Harbin led the way with two hits, while Tyler Bortnick doubled. The Aces were hitless in eight chances with runners in scoring position and stranded nine.
The series continues Saturday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Charles Brewer (10-7, 6.13 ERA) toes the slab for the Aces, while RHP Andrew Kown (6-7, 5.77 ERA) gets the nod for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and the night will include a Reno Aces Trucker Hat Giveaway presented by KOLO 8 News Now.
Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
