Rookie Goaltender Schwarz Earns 2007 AHL All-Star Honors

Peoria, IL (January 9, 2007) - Peoria Rivermen rookie goaltender Marek Schwarz has earned American Hockey League (AHL) All-Star honors, as the AHL announced today the rosters for the Canadian and PlanetUSA All-Star teams for the 2007 RBK AHL All-Star Classic, which will be held at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto later this month. Schwarz, who will play for PlanetUSA, is the lone representative from Peoria.

Schwarz, 20, made his NHL debut with the St. Louis Blues on December 12 in a 3-2 home loss to the Chicago Blackhawks with 21 saves. The 20-year-old native of Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic, ranks first among AHL rookies in wins with 13 (T-4th overall) and is third among AHL rookie goaltenders with a 2.59 goals against average (GAA). A first-round pick (17th overall) of the Blues in 2004 NHL Entry Draft, he owns a .904 save percentage in 21 appearances.

From October 13-December 3, Schwarz was unbeaten in regulation in 10 starts (9-0-1-0), which included a team-and season-best, five-game winning streak and a four-game winning stretch. For the five-game stretch, he had a 1.78 goals against average (GAA) and a .929 save percentage (118/127). In his four-game winning streak, he owned a 1.50 GAA and a .944 save percentage (102/108).

On Friday, January 12, the Rivermen face off against the Toronto Marlies at 7:30 p.m. It is a Coca-Cola/Insight Date Night. Fans receive two (2) tickets, two (2) Cokes and a tub of popcorn for just $25. It is also Par-A-Dice Hotel-Casino Night, and the first 1,500 fans (21 & over) receive a deck of playing cards. The team will also wear jerseys commemorating the franchise's 2000 ECHL Kelly Cup Championship that will be auctioned off after the game. And U.S. Cellular's 25 Greatest Rivermen of All-Time continues with Curtis Sanford cards to the first 2,500 fans. On Saturday, January 13, Peoria hosts the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 p.m. It is OSF-St. Francis Medical Center/Children's Hospital of Illinois T-Shirt Night for the first 2,000 fans. And Kaufman Wellness Center will be on hand for free spinal checks and back massages.
