Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons, proud members of the American Hockey League, announced today that goaltender Karri Ramo has been named to the PlanetUSA AHL All-Star Team and will participate in the league's annual mid-season All-Star Weekend on January 28-29, 2007 in Toronto, Ontario.
Ramo is in his first season of professional hockey and has appeared in 24 games for the Falcons this season posting a record of 12-9-0 with a 3.13 goals against average and .904 save percentage. The 20-year-old native of Asikkala, Finland currently leads Springfield in games played, wins and minutes played with 1,284. Ramo earned his first professional shutout and win on October 22 in Bridgeport.
In November, Ramo finished the month with a record of 6-1-0 with a 2.52 goals against average and .924 save percentage in leading the Falcons to a 7-5-0-0 record. Ramo was the game's first star in back-to-back wins over the Hershey Bears on November 15, followed by a victory over the Toronto Marlies on November 17. Ramo also assisted on the game-tying goal for the Falcons on November 15 against Hershey. Ramo was the game's second star on November 24 in a 4-1 road win at Worcester. On December 2, Ramo earned his first recall to the National Hockey League and made his NHL debut as a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning at Ottawa.
Following his recall to Tampa Bay, Ramo once again joined the Falcons and won three straight starts from December 23-29 only allowing four goals in that span. Ramo was the game's first star on December 27 making 43 saves against the Hartford Wolf Pack, followed by a 37-save performance at Portland on December 29 once again earning the contest's top star.
Ramo becomes the fifth goaltender in Falcons history to be named to an AHL All-Star Team. David LeNeveu was the most recent Falcons netminder to earn a trip to the mid-season classic during the 2003-04 campaign. Scott Langkow (1996-97, 1997-98), Manny Legace (1995-96) and Robert Esche (1999-00) are also previous Falcons goaltenders to participate in the AHL All-Star Game.
