Three Wolves Headed to AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto

Chicago Wolves forwards DARREN HAYDAR and BRETT STERLING, the top two scorers in the American Hockey League, and forward JASON KROG, who is currently on recall to the Atlanta Thrashers, will represent the squad in the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic, which will take place at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto on Jan. 28 and 29.
HAYDAR, the league's leading scorer with 55 assists and 79 points, will start for the Canadian All-Star Team, while STERLING, the AHL's top goal scorer with 35 markers, will be in the starting lineup for the PlanetUSA squad. KROG will join HAYDAR on the Canadian All-Star club, marking the first time Chicago has had three players selected to the mid-season classic since joining the AHL in 2001.
HAYDAR, a native of Toronto, has notched at least one point in each of Chicago's 39 games this season, which is tied for the fourth-longest scoring streak in professional hockey history. He also paces the league with a +23 plus/minus rating and shares fourth with 24 goals. The 27-year-old forward, who will be making his second appearance in an AHL All-Star Classic, has more assists than any other player in the league - excluding STERLING - has points. Earlier this season, he established a franchise record by posting an assist in 14 consecutive games from Nov. 4 to Dec. 8.
STERLING, the Rbk Hockey/AHL Rookie of the Month for both November and December, ranks second behind HAYDAR with 56 points in 37 games this season. The 22-year-old forward's 35 goals are the most by a player through 39 tilts in Wolves history and a franchise record for a rookie. The Los Angeles native set a club record by notching a marker in nine consecutive games from Dec. 12 to Dec. 29 and has potted two of Chicago's five hat tricks this season. Prior to this season, a Wolves rookie had posted three goals in a game only once in 12 years.
KROG was recalled by the Atlanta Thrashers on Dec. 12 and left the AHL as its leading scorer with 33 assists and 52 points in 25 outings. The 31-year-old forward collected at least one point in each of his 25 tilts with the Wolves, which is the second-longest point streak in the league this season and the third-best in franchise history. The Fernie, British Columbia, native has posted three assists and four points in 14 contests with Atlanta this year.
HAYDAR, STERLING and KROG are three of 48 players comprising the Canadian and PlanetUSA All-Star Teams. The annual event kicks off with the 2007 CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sun., Jan. 28 at 6 p.m., and the 2007 AHL All-Star Game will be played on Mon., Jan. 29 at 6 p.m., and will be televised live on a network of regional broadcast partners in the United States.
