Friday, PHANTOMS 5 vs. Devils 3

Lowell scored first with a shorthanded goal by Ryan Murphy, and held a 3-1 lead late in the second period. Philadelphia scored in the final minute of the middle frame and reeled off three tallies in the third for the 5-3 win. David Clarkson and Chris Minard also scored for the Devils.

Saturday, ADMIRALS 3 vs. Devils 1

Again the Devils scored first, with rookie Rod Pelley potting his eighth of the season just 42 seconds into the game. Norfolk tie! d the game in the second and added two more in the third to take the victory, their third in three tries against Lowell this season. The Devils outshot the Admirals 33-24 in the game, but fell to 3-7-2-0 outside their division.

In the standings

With a pair of losses, the Devils dropped back to .500 for the first time since November 11th, at 17-17-2-1. Their 37 points are good for sixth in the Atlantic Division, tied with the Providence Bruins. The Manchester Monarchs lead the division with 49 points, but Lowell sits just six points behind the second place Portland Pirates, in what is still a very close division race.

Coming Up

The Devils return home to host three games in four days starting this Friday night when the Philadelphia Phantoms come to town for a 7:05 p.m. match. After a Saturday night off, they host the Phantoms again on Sunday, January 14th at 2:05 p.m. Sunday's game is Red Sox Day, as fans will have the chance to meet Wally the Green Monster and win Sox prizes throughout the afternoon. All Sunday home games also feature a post-game skate, free for everyone in attendance, courtesy of Jeanne D'Arc Credit Union.! Fans are also being asked at Sunday's game to donate new or partially used hockey equipment to the DEAFinitely Hockey Program (Hockey for the Deaf). For every piece of equipment donated, fans will receive a Lowell Devils Mini Pennant.

The Devils also will host the Worcester Sharks in a special Martin Luther King Jr. Day afternoon matinee on Monday, January 15th at 2:05 p.m. All tickets to this game will be just $10, and there will be a variety of kid-themed activities in the arena, including: clowns, face-painting and a big screen TV set up for video games. After the game, fans can meet their favorite Devils during a team autograph session, open to everyone in attendance.

Holiday Hat Tricks still available

Time is running out to purchase a Holiday Hat Trick for the hockey fan in your life. The Devils are offering the Holiday Hat Trick, which includes a ticket to three games during the second half of the season and a Devils hat for just $49. The first game of the Holiday Hat Trick package is this Friday.

Around the Horns

After scoring just once shorthanded all season, the Devils scored a shorthanded tally in back-to-back games, both against Philadelphia on December 30th (Tuomas Pihlman) and January 5th (Ryan Murphy).

Lowell scored first in both of their games over the weekend, however, they are just .500 when scoring th! e first goal (11-11-0-1). They have scored first in 23 of their 37 games, and six of their last eight (3-5-0-0).

The Devils welcomed D Mike Mottau to the lineup last weekend for the first time all season. Injured during training camp, Mottau saw his first action and played both games. The Quincy, MA native had 56 points in 76 AHL games last season for Peoria.

D Mark Fraser was recalled by the New Jersey Devils on Saturday and made his NHL debut that night in his hometown of Ottawa. He also played Sunday in Montreal, both victories for New Jersey.

RW Cam Janssen was assigned to Lowell on Friday and played Saturday night in Norfolk! . He got on the scoresheet with two shots on goal and a first period fighting major.

RW Nicklas Bergfors completed his tour of duty with the Swedish National Team at the World Junior Championships, as Sweden advanced to the Bronze Medal Game, where they were defeated by the United States, 2-1. In seven games, Bergfors had a pair of assists and was plus-1.
