Rony Garcia Named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week

The Thunder, presented by NJM Insurance, are pleased to announce in conjunction with the Eastern League that RHP Rony Garcia has been named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 25. Harrisburg's Michael Taylor took home the Player of the Week honors.

Garica earned his second weekly award of the season with two scoreless starts, one against New Hampshire and Portland. In both starts, Garcia totaled 14 strikeouts in his 10.0 innings pitched with just four hits allowed and three walks. In Sunday's start at Portland, Garcia matched his career-high with nine strikeouts in a 5-4 victory to win the four-game series.

The 21-year-old right-hander has totaled a 3-11 record this season in a Thunder uniform with a 4.40 ERA in 19 starts. Garcia took home his first career Eastern League Pitcher of the Week award for the week ending July 14 after he delivered eight scoreless innings in a start at Reading. Garcia is the seventh player in franchise histroy, and first since RHP Tyler Clippard in 2006 to win a weekly honor twice in the same season.
