Road Warriors Fall 2-1 to Toledo

Greenville, SC: A depleted Road Warriors' roster dropped a close game against the Toledo Walleye by a score of 2-1.

Greenville scored the first goal of the game coming from Marc-Olivier Vallerand 4:53 into the first period. The third-year forward scored his 17th of the year with Sean Berkstresser and Danny Hobbs collecting the assists. Halfway through the period Andrej Nestrasil tied the game at one with his 11th of the year. Joey Martin and Nestrasil created a give-and-go play from the corner to the slot and beat Scott Stajcer low blocker. Only one penalty, an Erik Spady hooking call, was assessed in the period. Greenville outshot Toledo 15-8 in the first frame.

The second period had few scoring chances and only one power play opportunity which Toledo did not convert on.

Travis Novak scored 50 seconds into the third period to bring Toledo up 2-1. Novak scored his 7th goal of the year on a second opportunity for the game winner. Two fights occurred in the period between Chad Ziegler and Spady and T.J. Reynolds and Ben Woodly. Greenville had two power plays in the frame but was not able to get any past the game's first star, Kent Simpson. Stajcer lost his third game of the year and stopped 25 of 27 shots. Simpson saved 33 of 34 shots.

The Road Warriors are back at the Century BMW Rink at the BI-LO Center on Saturday against the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7 p.m. The first 5,000 fans receive a Team Poster presented by Talk.Sports. 104.9!
