Reign Keep Streak Alive with 4-2 Win over Condors
February 7, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release
ONTARIO, Calif. - The Ontario Reign (34-11-1-2), defending Pacific Division Champions and proud affiliate of the NHL's 2012 Stanley Cup Champion Los Angeles Kings, refused the Bakersfield Condors (14-32-2-3) third period push beating them 4-2 on Wednesday night before 6,785 fans.
Condors' Nicholas Tremblay sent a scare through the Reign when he, Francis Verreault and Scott Freeman teamed up to score two goals in a row to tie the game 2-2 in the third period; but Derek Couture, in his first game back from Houston, put the Reign up 3-2 with 2:58 left on the clock with a wristshot from the slot. Everett Sheen and Matt Clune earned the assists on the game-winner.
Kyle Kraemer, assisted by Couture, put the nail in the coffin with an empty-net goal at 18:50.
In the second period, Brady Calla was the first on the board when he picked up Mario Lamoureux's backhanded pass from just outside the trapezoid and slid it past Scott Greenham from the slot. The goal came at 5:43 of the second frame after a scoreless first with Colton Yellow Horn picking up the secondary assist.
About a minute after going on the power play, Kraemer converted the man-advantage for his 15th goal of the season. Brodie Sheahan and Yellow Horn set up the play for the forward who came in quick on Greenham's right side to snap the puck up to the top corner.
Tremblay's first tally was the result of a breakaway shot he backhanded up high past Chris Carrozzi. Just 2:42 later his blade caught an across-ice pass from Verreaualt and his shot went in off Carrozzi's skate.
Carrozzi earned his second straight win with 16 saves on 18 shots, and Brian Stewart took the loss with 12 stops on 13 shots. Before exiting the game due to injury, Greenham made 19 stops on 21 shots.
Three Stars:
1. ONT - Derek Couture
2. BAK - Nicholas Tremblay
3. ONT - Kyle Kraemer
