Roa, McCall Blast 'Cats to 6-3 Win over Lowell

Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - Hector Roa hit a solo home run to left field, and Dexture McCall smashed a two-run shot over the center field wall in a three-run fourth inning, as the Tri-City ValleyCats clawed back from an early deficit en route to a 6-3 victory over the Lowell Spinners on Sunday evening, at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
The Spinners jumped out to an early lead, scoring one run in the first inning, and one run in the second, as the ValleyCats entered the bottom of the fourth down 2-0.
Leading off that frame was Roa, who slugged the first pitch of the at bat from Lowell right-hander Austin Glorius onto the berm above the ValleyCats' bullpen, for his fourth Tri-City home run.
After Pat Porter singled to right field, McCall drove a 1-1 pitch from Glorius over the 400-foot sign in center field for his third home run of the year, putting the 'Cats ahead by the score of 3-2.
After Tri-City scored a run in the bottom of the sixth when Antonio Nunez drove home Bobby Wernes with an RBI double, Lowell cut the deficit to 4-3 when their catcher Austin Rei hit a home run to left field.
But that run did not deter the 'Cats, as they scored twice in the bottom of the eighth when Brooks Marlow hit a double to center field to score Wernes, and Johnny Sewald scored on a balk, as they took a 6-3 lead into the ninth inning.
Right-handed reliever Zac Grotz then entered the game for Tri-City, and promptly shut the door on the Spinners with a 1-2-3 frame. He capped his performance with a three-pitch strike out of Rei to seal the victory for the 'Cats, and grab his third save of the year.
Earning the win on the mound was Alex Winkelman (5-0), who struck out three batters in five innings.
Offensively, Roa (2-for-4 with a double and home run), Marlow (2-for-5 with two doubles and a run batted in), Porter (2-for-5 with a run scored), and Wernes (2-for-4 with a double and two runs), all posted multi-hit games, while every Tri-City batter reached base at least once.
The ValleyCats, who stretched their first-place lead in the New York-Penn League Stedler Division to three games over the Spinners, will look to carry their strong momentum into Monday's 7 p.m., contest. On the mound for Tri-City in the second game of this three-game set will be RHP Harold Arauz (0-3, 6.47), with RHP Jose Almonte (2-2, 4.12), getting the start for Lowell.
