August 9, 2015 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Staten Island Yankees News Release
The Brooklyn Cyclones (24-24) defeated the Staten Island Yankees (25-22) on Sunday evening by a score of 2-1 in 11 innings.
The Cyclones struck first in the top of the third inning. Alfredo Reyes led off the inning with a single, stole his sixth bag of the season to advance to second, and scored on William Fulmer's RBI single to centerfield.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Yankees would tie the game up at one. Drew Bridges and Jeff Hendrix both drew a walk before Thairo Estrada collected his 17th RBI of the season on a single to center.
Things got dicey in the top of the eighth inning when Yankees relievers loaded the bases with nobody out. Michael Schaub then proceeded to escape the jam without allowing one run to score. He induced a groundout and two strikeouts to pitch out of trouble.
The ballgame would remain tied until the top of the eleventh inning, when the Cyclones regained the lead. Reyes led off the inning with a single, moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an RBI single by Vincent Siena.
Domingo Acevedo started on the mound for the Yankees and went 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and striking out four. Mark Seyler replaced Acevedo and pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, striking out three. Schaub was next in line and went 1.2 innings giving up two hits, no earned runs, two walks, and striking out two. Travis Hissong (L, 1-1) gave up the decisive run in the top of the eleventh inning. Hissong went 2.1 innings, surrendering three hits, 1 run, no walks, while striking out five.
The Yankees will play game two of their series with the Cyclones in Staten Island on Monday at 7 p.m. for Big Money Monday.
