Scrappers Drop Series Opener at State College

After finishing the homestand 3-3, the Scrappers (22-25) went to State College for a three-game series with the Spikes (24-24), and dropped the first game 4-1 at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park in State College.

The Scrappers scored one in the top of the first on an RBI double for Ka'ai Tom to score Mark Mathias. Sam Haggerty had doubled, but left the game with an injury when he got to second.

The Spikes got to Kieran Lovegrove (1-4) quickly in the second, and tagged him for three runs. Jesse Jenner led it off with a single, followed by two straight doubles for the Spikes. Cole Lankford and Jhohan Acevedo doubled. RJ Dennard reached on an error by Nate Winfrey, but Lovegrove struck out Champ Rowland to stop the bleeding.

The Spikes added another run in the bottom of the seventh thanks to an RBI double to score Lankford.

The Scrappers fall to 13-11 on the road.

Lovegrove earned the loss, while Jorge Rodriguez (4-2) earned the win for the Spikes. Kevin Alexander earned his second save of the season.

These two teams go at it again on Monday night at 7:05. Leandro Linares takes the hill for the Scrappers against Dailyn Martinez.
