
Cutters Drop Series Opener against West Virginia

Williamsport Crosscutters News Release
The Williamsport Crosscutters scored a run in the bottom of the first inning but their lead wouldn't hold as they dropped a 2-1 decision against the West Virginia Black Bears on Sunday afternoon at Susquehanna Bank Park. The Cutters drop of the first game of the series but remain in first place in the Pinckney Division with a five game lead over the Black Bears.
The Crosscutters offense produced a run in the bottom of the first inning after Zach Coppola kicked off the inning with a single. Coppola would score two batters later thanks to an RBI double from Josh Tobias. The early run would be plenty for Cutters starter Alejandro Arteaga as he worked into the sixth inning with a no hitter in place. The no hitter along with the lead would both go away for Arteaga with two outs in the inning as the Black Bears put together three consecutive hits to tie the game 1-1.
Williamsport would turn to the bullpen looking to keep the game tied as Jacob Waguespack came on to record the final out of the inning. Waguespack worked 1.1 innings of scoreless baseball in relief. The Cutters would have their chances in the game to try and take a lead as they stranded seven runners on base throughout the game.
The Black Bears would take their first lead of the game in the top of the ninth inning as Logan Hill hit the first pitch that he saw from Kenny Koplove over the left field wall for his sixth home run of the season. Hill also was responsible for both of West Virginia's runs in the game. The Cutters attempted to rally in the bottom of the inning picking up a lead-off hit from Jesus Posso. Carlos Duran would fly out to center field to end the game and strand Venn Biter; who pinch ran for Posso at second base. Koplove took the hard luck loss falling to 1-2 on the season. Koplove tossed two innings while allowing one run on three hits and also picking up two strikeouts.
