Peoria Rivermen News Release

NEWS AND NOTES

Everything's bigger in Texas...Peoria's seven goal output on Friday was their most since they beat Chicago 7-6 on Dec. 3, 2008. It was the first time they have scored five goals in the first period since joining the AHL. It was the first time since January 23, 2008 that they scored five goals in any period (2nd period vs. Rockford in a 6-1 win).

Short Stack...The Rivermen scored their first shorthanded goal of the season on Friday, in their 18th game of the year. They proceeded to score twice on the same Rampage power play, just 17 seconds apart.

Can't hang on...Peoria's loss on Saturday to Chicago was the first regulation loss when leading after the second period this year. They are now 6-1-0-1 when holding a lead to start the third.

Portability...Chris Porter's seventh goal of the season on Friday matched his offensive output from last season after just 18 games. He is tied for the team lead in goals with seven and also has four assists for 11 points. Last season, Porter scored seven goals and registered 16 assists and 23 points in 74 games.

It's cold up north...All three of Peoria's games this week come against the North Divison, which the Rivermen have had a tough time against. While posting a 9-3-0 record against fellow West Division clubs, Peoria is just 0-4-2 against the North. Overall the West has gone 20-21-5 against the North.

Empty, empty net...Brett Sterling's goal in the final minute of regulation on Sunday was the fourth empty net goal allowed by the Rivermen this season. The Rivermen have yet to score an empty net goal through the first 19 games of the year.

500 Club...Former Rivermen captain Trent Whitfield has been reassigned from Boston to the Providence Bruins after a month long stint in the NHL. He needs just four points to become the 76th player to join the AHL's 500 point club. He recorded 233 of those 496 as a member of the Rivermen.
