Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The shootout has become one of the most exciting parts of the game of hockey and the American Hockey League is no different. Imagine then that you are skating at The Blue Cross Arena with a chance to score the deciding goal in the shootout. Well, now's your chance.
On Sunday, December 27th, the Rochester Americans will hold their Second Annual Shootout Showcase to crown the four best shootout artists in the Rochester area. All mite, squirt, pee-wee and bantam players are eligible to compete in the competitions that will take place from Saturday, December 12th to Saturday, December 19th. The top five shooters from each age group will advance to The Blue Cross Arena for the semifinals and finals.
"The Rochester Americans look forward to seeing Rochester youth hockey's future stars showcase their skills on December 27th," said Amerks Vice President of Ticketing and Suites Adam Winslow.
The entry fee is $10.00 and includes five breakaway shots on a goalie and a ticket to the Rochester Americans game on Sunday, December 27th against the Binghamton Senators at 5:00 p.m. First prize is a team autographed Amerks jersey and a $50 gift certificate to Perani's Hockey World. Second place winners receive an autographed stick and a $50 gift certificate to Perani's Hockey World. Third place winners will take home a $50 gift certificate to Perani's Hockey World. To sign up for the shootout showcase, please call Adam Prescott at (585) 454-5335, ext. 3054 or email him at aprescott@amerks.com.
The competition is open to all boys and girls (mite to bantam age). Players do not have to belong to a league to enter. All that is required for the initial round is gloves, skates and a helmet. For the semifinal round and the finals, kids must wear either their team's warm-up suites or a jersey. Participants can compete at as many locations.
The Amerks hosted their first qualifier on Saturday, November 11th at Webster Ice Arena. Kids have three other chances to secure spots in the finals. The next shootout events are scheduled for Saturday, December 12th. The first event is from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Genesee Valley and the second shootout is from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Brockport. The final qualifying shootout competition is on Saturday, December 19th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. at the ESL Sports Centre.
