Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Behind a great team-effort on the mound, the Sacramento River Cats (64-49) shut out the Albuquerque Isotopes (53-60) by a score of 5-0 on Miller Lite Thirsty Thursday at Raley Field.

With the game knotted at zero in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Cats' offense broke out against Albuquerque righty Zach Lee (6-10, 5.22 ERA). Center fielder Nick Buss and shortstop Andy Parrino worked walks to start the frame and were followed by first baseman Nate Freiman, who swatted a two-run double to left field to give Sacramento a 2-0 advantage. Third baseman Alden Carrithers' ground-rule double to right drove in Freiman from second base to extend the River Cats advantage to three.

Freiman's bat stayed hot as he blasted a solo home run to right-center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a 4-0 ballgame. The homer was Freiman's 15th long-ball of the season, and he went 2-for-2 on the night with two runs scored, the homer, and three RBI, giving him a club-leading 73 on the season.

Sacramento kept the pressure on the Topes in the bottom of the seventh when Buss singled home Carrithers to put the Cats ahead by five. Buss finished the contest 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, raising his season batting average to .288 in the process.

In his first start with the River Cats, right-handed starter Deck McGuire (1-0, 0.00 ERA) kept Albuquerque off the scoreboard, hurling six scoreless innings and giving up just five hits along with two walks and two strikeouts to pick up his first win with the Cats.

Reliever Tucker Healy pitched a perfect seventh inning, followed by a scoreless eighth inning from Seth Frankoff. Jeremy McBryde continued the trend by hurling a perfect ninth frame to give the Cats the win and the shutout. For Sacramento, it is their third shutout of the year and their second at Raley Field in 2014.

Lee was tagged with the loss for the Isotopes, allowing four earned runs on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings of work.

The River Cats will send righty Zach Neal (4-5, 4.63 ERA) to the mound to face the Isotopes and starter Jeff Bennett (5-5, 3.84 ERA) on Fireworks Friday and BloodSource night at Raley Field with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m.
