Reno Aces News Release
FRESNO, Calif.- The Reno Aces' offense struggled to get anything going Thursday night, as the Fresno Grizzlies defeated the Aces, 7-2, at Chukchansi Park.
In the first career Triple-A start of his career, Fresno starter Kelvin Marte got the win after he held the Aces to one run on five hits over seven innings.
After the teams went the first two innings scoreless, Fresno got on the board with two runs in the third inning. The Grizzlies added two more in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead.
The Aces answered in the fifth inning when Steve McQuail launched a solo home run to left field. The hit was the first of McQuail's Triple-A career.
Fresno answered immediately in the bottom of the inning. With two outs in the frame, Chris Dominguez took the first pitch he saw deep to right field to make the lead 5-1. Fresno's first five runs of the game came with two outs.
Fresno added two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, aided by three Aces errors in the frame. Reno finished with four errors in the game for the first time since Aug. 17, 2013 in Fresno.
The Aces scored one run in the ninth inning, but stranded runners on the corners to end the game.
Dominguez finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the only multi-RBI game of the night. Bobby Wilson went 3-for-4, and Mike Freeman went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss for Reno.
The teams will wrap up the season series tomorrow night with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Fresno will send right-hander Jason Bergen (8-7, 4.21) to the mound, and Reno has yet to announce a starter.
