Infielders Darwin Barney and Erisbel Arruebarrena Join Isotopes

Infielders Darwin Barney and Erisbel Arruebarrena joined the Albuquerque Isotopes this afternoon. In corresponding moves, Walter Ibarra was sent to Double-A Chattanooga, outfielder Trayvon Robinson was placed on the disabled list with a right ankle sprain, and outfielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez was released.

Barney won a Rawlings Gold Glove Award at second base in 2012 and has a .990 combined fielding percentage at second base, third base and shortstop in five Major League seasons with the Chicago Cubs from 2010-14. In 542 career games, he has a .244 career batting average with 18 home runs and 146 RBI.

Arruebarrena has played in 22 games with the Isotopes this season, claiming a .351 batting average with three doubles, two triples, one home run and 11 RBI. He's also appeared eight games with the Los Angeles Dodgers, batting .313 (5-for-16) with one run scored, one double and two RBI.

Ibarra played in 79 games with Albuquerque this season, batting .255 with eight doubles, four home runs and 27 RBI. Robinson is batting .239 in 98 games with the Topes this season. He has 20 doubles, one triple, six homers and 28 RBI. Cavazos-Galvez hit .313 with two doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI with the Isotopes this season. In his last at-bat with the Topes on July 12 at Las Vegas, Cavazos-Galvez hit a pinch-hit home run.

The Isotopes will play game three of their four-game series against the Sacramento River Cats tonight at 8:05 p.m. MT. Right-hander Zach Lee (6-9, 5.18 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Sacramento will go with righty Zach Neal (4-5, 4.63 ERA).
