Isotopes Surrender 5-0 Decision to River Cats
July 31, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
NEED TO KNOW: The Albuquerque Isotopes (53-60) surrendered a 5-0 decision to the Sacramento River Cats (64-49) Thursday night at Raley Field in Sacramento, CA.
LACKING OFFENSE: Neither team produced much offensively through the first three inning before the River Cats broke through with a three-spot in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Isotopes had their best chance to respond in the top of the fifth when Jamie Romak walked to leadoff the inning and advanced to third on a single by Mike Baxter. A fly out and lineout kept the runners at bay before another fly out ended the inning with no damage done. Sacramento tacked on single runs in the sixth and seventh to put the game out of reach.
C. ROB HIT: First baseman Clint Robinson kept his recent hot streak going Thursday evening with a 1-for-4 performance with a double. During the current road trip, Robinson is batting .435 (10-for-23) with four walks, five doubles and four RBI.
AWAY FIELD ADVANTAGE: Catcher Tim Federowicz has fared much better away from the hitter-friendly Isotopes Park this season than at The Lab. After his 2-for-4 game with a double, the backstop is hitting .348 (39-for-112) on the road as opposed to .279 at home. He also has nine doubles, five homers and 22 RBI on the road.
SPLIT THE SERIES: Albuquerque has yet to lose a series since the All-Star Break. The Topes split their last series after winning three straight sets but need a victory on Friday to split the series against the Pacific Coast League-leading River Cats.
ON DECK: The Isotopes will play the finale of their four-game series Friday night at 8:05 p.m. MT. Right-hander Jeff Bennett (5-5, 3.84 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Sacramento will go with lefty Drew Pomeranz (0-0, 3.68 ERA).
IN THE HOLE: After finishing their eight-game road trip in Sacramento, the Isotopes will return home for a four-game series against the Tacoma Rainiers beginning Aug. 2 at 7:05 p.m.
