
River Bandits snap Kernels streak at three, 2-1

July 3, 2008 - The Quad Cities River Bandits snapped the Cedar Rapids Kernels three game winning streak by the score of 2-1, at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport on Thursday night. Starter Richard Castillo (2-1) held the Kernels to four hits over seven shutout innings and struck out four for the win and Pete Parise got the final two outs with the tying run at second base for his seventh save.
Kernels starter Jordan Walden (4-6) allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, walked one and struck out three over seven innings in taking the loss. Reliever Chris Armstrong gave up two hits and struck out one in an inning of relief.
The Kernels scored their run on a solo home run by Jay Brossman in the ninth inning. The Kernels were held to six hits in the game as Clay Fuller had a double for the only other extra base hit. Julio Perez was 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to a team-high twelve games.
