Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Peoria Chiefs used four homers to beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 9-7 Friday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Gian Guzman and Luis Bautista each had a pair of homers and three RBI for Peoria. The win was the eleventh straight for the Chiefs. The loss was the eighth straight for the Rattlers.
Peoria (11-5 second half, 41-43 overall) grabbed the early lead. They scored twice in the first inning on back-to-back RBI singles by Bautista and Brandon Guyer. A two-run homer by Guzman in the second inning made the score 4-0. The homer was Guzman's first in over 230 at bats as a professional.
Wisconsin (3-13, 34-48) got back in the game with a three-run third inning. Alex Liddi knocked in a run with a single. An RBI grounder by Joe Dunigan plated the second run. Liddi would score on a wild pitch to cap the inning.
Two solo homers by the Chiefs put their lead up to three runs. Guzman homered to lead off the fourth. Then, Bautista hit a leadoff homer in the fifth.
The Rattlers used a pair of homers in their half of the fifth inning to tie the game. Edilio Colina lined a two-run homer to left for his second long ball of the season. Dunigan's two-out solo shot to center tied the game 6-6.
But, the Chiefs scored twice in the top of the sixth to go back in front. A two-out, two-run double by Jovan Rosa put the Chiefs in front 8-6.
The Rattler had their chances in the seventh and eighth innings. Wisconsin had runners at first and second with one out against Zach Ashwood in the seventh, but a strikeout and a flyout ended the threat. In the eighth, the Rattlers had runners at second and third with one out against Jordan Latham. But, Latham got a strikeout for the second out and snared a line drive back at his face to retire the side.
Bautista leadoff the top of the ninth inning with a long home run to left and the Chiefs went up 9-6.
In the ninth, Dunigan drove in a run with a ground out to give him three RBI in the night. But, Latham got the final out to finish off the four-game sweep of Wisconsin.
The Rattlers begin a three-game series with the Beloit Snappers on Saturday. Keith Renaud (0-0, 1.29) makes his second start for the Timber Rattlers. David Bromberg (5-6, 5.31) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Snappers. Game time is 6:35pm.
