Loons Nemesis Parker Haunts Loons
July 4, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Great Lakes Loons News Release
Out of the 29 RBIs Dayton Dragons first baseman/designated hitter Logan Parker has this season, 16 of those have came against the Great Lakes Loons. Three of those RBIs came on one swing of the bat in Friday afternoon's Independence Day celebration at Dow Diamond, and in front of 4,906 fans at Dow Diamond the Loons lost to the Dragons, 5-0.
The Loons have now scored 23 runs in their last 12 games. This is the club's first shutout of the stretch.
Dayton posted its first run in the fourth inning when Parker scored on a Jaime Ortiz fielding error to give Dragons a 1-0 lead.
With the bases loaded in the fifth, Parker drove a Justin Miller pitch to the wall in the right-center field gap. All three baserunners came around to score and extend Dayton's lead to 4-0.
Parker is now hitting .359 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 14 games against the Loons this season.
Devin Mesoraco added an RBI single to score Parker later in the inning to conclude the scoring for the Dragons.
Miller (3-6) started for the Loons and pitched 4 1/3 innings on the mound allowing all five Dragon runs (four earned) to score in picking up his sixth loss of the season.
Kyle Lotzkar took advantage of a slumping Loons offense to throw five innings of scoreless baseball. Lotzkar picked up his first professional win to improve his record to 1-3.
The Loons travel to the state capital for a three-game series with one of the Midwest League's top teams, the Lansing Lugnuts beginning Saturday night. Game time is 7:05pm. The game will be carried in Mid-Michigan on ESPN 100.9-FM (WLUN), the Loons' flagship radio home. Left-handers Victor Garate (4-3, 1.96 ERA) and Marc Rzepczynski (3-2, 2.03) will oppose each other in the game.
The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
