Bees Put Up Nine Runs in Third Inning and Win

Geneva, IL (Jul 4, 2008) - The Burlington Bees scored nine runs in the third inning Friday night and defeated Kane County 9-2. Five separate Bees had multiple hits with Alex Caldera picking up his sixth win of the season.

The Bees scored all the runs they would need in the third inning as they scored the nine runs on nine hits in the frame. The nine runs and hits were the most runs and hits the Bees have had in an inning this season. In the frame, the Bees sent 15 batters to the plate. Ryan Eigsti had two hits in the inning in addition to a run scored and an RBI. Adrian Ortiz, Johnny Giavotella and Clint Robinson all had two RBI in the inning.

The Cougars were able to add one run in the sixth and one in the ninth. Alex Caldera got the start and pitched well. In six innings of work, he allowed one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Zach Peterson pitched two scoreless innings allowing just three hits with a strikeout. Paul Raglione allowed one run as he worked the ninth inning to finish out the game.

Ortiz, Giavotella, Mike Moustakas, Robinson and Eigsti each had two hits in the game. As a team, the Bees registered 13 hits.

The Bees open a three-game series at home against Clinton on Saturday. Matt Mitchell is the scheduled starter. First pitch is set for 6:30. Fireworks will be shot off immediately following the game.
