Dayton Dragons News Release

Midland, Mich.-Eighteen-year-old Kyle Lotzkar earned his first career victory and Logan Parker drilled a three-run double as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Great Lakes Loons 5-0 on Friday afternoon. The win gave the Dragons a split of the four game series and improved their second half record to 7-9.

Lotzkar, a supplemental first round pick by the Reds in 2007, worked five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while walking one and striking out seven to improve his record to 1-3. Curtis Partch fired three scoreless innings in relief of Lotzkar and Jeff Jeffords pitched the ninth to close out the Dragons win.

The Dragons took the lead in the fourth inning. Parker walked and went to second when Anthony Gressick was hit by a pitch. One batter later, Michael McKennon hit a ground ball off the glove of first baseman Jaime Ortiz, who was charged with an error, as Parker scored from second to make it 1-0.

In the fifth inning, the Dragons took advantage of wildness by Great Lakes starting pitcher Justin Miller. Miller hit two batters and allowed a walk to load the bases with one out and then yielded a three-run double to Parker to the fence in right-center field. Parker then scored on a two-out single by Devin Mesoraco to make it 5-0 to close out the scoring.

The Dragons return home to play nine games in 10 days at Fifth Third Field starting Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. against the West Michigan White Caps. A fireworks show will follow the game. Josh Ravin (2-5, 6.11) will start for Dayton. The series continues Sunday at 7:00 p.m.

Notes: The Dragons are 26-12 this season when they score at least four runs...Dayton went 3-5 on their eight game road trip...The Dragons have just seven errors in their last 15 games...Dragons third baseman Brandon Waring missed his fifth game in the last six. He aggravated a sprained thumb on Thursday and is day-to-day.
