
River Bandits earn series split with 9-2 win over Kernels

July 4, 2008 - The Quad Cities River Bandits earned a series split with a 9-2 victory over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Modern Woodman Park in Davenport on Friday night. Quad Cities scored at least one run in the first five innings off Kernels starter Michael Davitt (2-6) as he allowed seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits, with a walk and strikeout.
River Bandit starter Nick Additon (7-2) held the Kernels to two runs (one earned) on five hits and struck out three over six innings for the win. Pete Kozma was 4 for 6 with a double and 2 RBI and Paul Vazquez was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.
Jerry Gonzalez was the only Kernel with more than one hit, going 2 for 4. Clay Fuller had a double and Ryan Groth hit a solo home run in the third inning as the Kernels were held to seven hits on the night.
The Kernels return to Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Saturday, July 5th and open a three game series with the Kane County Cougars. It's Armed Forces Night, presented by Midwest Curb Grinding. The Kernels will wear special patriotic jerseys that will be sold during the game via a silent auction with the proceeds going to the Freedom Alliance. And after the game, enjoy a spectacular fireworks show presented by Bank of the West and KWWL.
