DAVENPORT, Iowa - Chris Edmondson rocketed a 2-2, two-out pitch onto the right field deck in the bottom of the ninth inning, breaking up a pitcher's duel and giving the Quad Cities River Bandits a 3-1 home run-powered decision over the Kane County Cougars Sunday afternoon.

On one of the warmest days of the year with temperatures nearing 100 degrees on the field, the Cougars' Greg Billo pitched Kane County into the 7th while his mound opponent, Boone Whiting took his club into the eighth in what was a 1-1 draw.

Quad Cities grabbed the early lead when Kolten Wong delivered a 3-2 pitch into the same area as the eventual game winner. Brett Eibner's ninth home run of the season would later tie the contest leading off the fourth. Back-to-back singles by Brian Fletcher and Kevin David put the next two batters on base as well, but any hope of a big inning evaporated when a pop foul to the catcher on an attempted bunt and a double play ended the frame. Neither club seriously threatened after that until the Bandits' ninth.

Billo allowed just one earned run while striking out five and walking just a pair of batters, keeping his league-best ERA at 1.48.

The Cougars and River Bandits conclude the three-game series Monday night at 7 PM (CDST). Yordano Ventura (2-3, 5.03) will challenge Anthony Ferrara (9-5, 3.21). The game will be broadcast on WBIG 1280-AM and online via kccougars.com with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 p.m.
