
Chiefs Lose 2-1 in 11 Innings Sunday

Clinton, IA - The Peoria Chiefs and Clinton LumberKings played 10 scoreless innings Sunday afternoon and both teams scored with two out singles in the 11th as Clinton won 2-1. The loss drops the Chiefs to 2-9 on the road trip which ends Monday night in Clinton.
Peoria's Austin Kirk, who no-hit Clinton on July 4, and Clinton's Tony Butler matched scoreless innings through the sixth. The Chiefs left a runner in scoring position twice in the first five innings and Clinton left one runner while also bouncing into a double play.
Clinton nearly scored in the eighth and 10th but the Chiefs recovered both times. In the eighth, Matt McGee bounced out with runners on the corners and in the 10th Julio Morban bounced out with the bases loaded. Reliever Jonathan Arias kept the Chiefs off the board in the 10th after Brandon May walked and Rubi Silva collected a pinch-hit single.
The Chiefs scored the first run of the game in the top of the 11th against Clinton reliever Tyler Blandford. With two down Richard Jones singled to right and moved to third on a single by Anthony Giansanti. Elliot Soto singled up the middle to plate Jones for a 1-0 lead before Blanford got out of the inning.
Peoria called on Daniel Berlind to get the save for the second day in a row. Berlind got two quick outs before Mickey Wiswall singled to center. Matt Browning followed with a single to left and Robbie Anston ran for Wiswall. Berlind hit Anthony Phillips to load the bases and Carlos Ramirez won the game for Clinton with a two-run single to right.
Kirk threw six shutout innings and allowed just two hits. He struck out four and did not issue a walk. Pichardo threw three shutout innings and allowed two hits with three strikeouts. Alvaro Sosa threw a shutout inning and allowed one hit and one walk. Berlind (0-3) allowed two runs on three hits in 2/3 of an inning.
Casey's General Store Player of the Game - Eliott Soto (SS) - Soto was 3-for-4 with the Chiefs only RBI and a sacrifice bunt. He also turned in numerous outstanding defensive plays to keep Clinton off the board.
