Walters Traded to Washington Nationals Organization

South Bend, IN - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the South Bend Silver Hawks have announced that infielder Zach Walters was traded to the Washington Nationals organization yesterday and will report to Potomac. The Diamondbacks received Major League pitcher Jason Marquis in return.

Walters was easily the Silver Hawks' most consistent and best offensive player this season, hitting .302 with nine homers and 56 RBIs. He ranked ninth in the Midwest League in batting average, second in runs scored, third in hits, and third in total bases at the time of the trade.

The Silver Hawks are expected to announce a corresponding roster move tomorrow.

The South Bend roster currently stands at 24 active players, plus two on the disabled list.

The Silver Hawks take on the West Michigan Whitecaps this afternoon at 2:00 PM Eastern Time at Coveleski Stadium. The ZOOperstars! will be on hand to entertain the crowd and the gates open at 12 PM with fans invited on the field for a pregame catch beginning at 1:00 PM.
