Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - Starter Wilking Rodriguez and reliever Jimmy Patterson combined for eight innings of scoreless ball against the Dayton Dragons (23-12, 58-47) on Sunday afternoon. Add on an inning from Nate Garcia and the Hot Rods (17-18, 58-47) took game two of the set from Dayton with a 3-1 win at Bowling Green Ballpark. The victory wraps up the series heading into the finale on Monday night. It also improves the Hot Rods record at home to 36-16, best in the Midwest League.
Rodriguez took the first four innings of the game in his third start since rejoining the Hot Rods. He allowed just four hits and didn't put a runner to second base until his final frame in the fourth. He finished with five strikeouts without issuing a walk.
During Rodriguez's innings the Hot Rods broke a scoreless tie against Dayton starter Daniel Corcino (L; 9-5). In the bottom of the second, Julio Cedeno took a fastball and deposited it into the left field bullpen for his fifth home run of the year and a 1-0 Bowling Green lead.
Patterson maintained that 1-0 lead when he entered the game, retiring the first six hitters he faced through the sixth inning. In the bottom of that frame, the Hot Rods tacked on two more runs against Corcino thanks to consecutive two-out hits. Robby Price brought home Phil Wunderlich for a 2-0 lead before Tinoco drove him across the plate with a single to right field to pad the margin to 3-0.
Patterson (W, 7-3) would work through the seventh and the eighth, allowing just one base runner on a single in that time. He turned the ball over to Nate Garcia, who allowed the Dragons only run before stranding the tying runs on the bases to end the game.
The Hot Rods now go for the sweep on Monday night at 6:35 PM. Gates open at 5 PM for Season Ticket holders and 5:30 PM for the general public. For tickets, visit www.bghotrods.com.
