Lugnuts Roll over Captains 10-6

Lansing, MI - Lake County could not overcome four errors and nine walks as Lansing cruised to a 10-6 win on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped a six game win streak for the Captains.

The Lugnuts took a 2-0 lead in the first inning, on sacrifice fly by Carlos Perez scoring Markus Brisker. The relay throw by Ronny Rodriguez was off line and allowed Marcus Knecht to score as well.

Lance Durham hit his third homerun of the season for Lansing in the second inning; the two run shot made it 4-0. Knecht drove in a run with a double to centerfield and advanced to third on a Luigi Rodriguez error. Knecht scored on a ball hit by KC Hobson was dropped by Luigi Rodriguez giving Lansing a 6-0 lead.

Carlos Moncrief drove in the Captains first run with a sacrifice fly to center scoring Kevin Fontanez and it was 6-1.

Down 7-2, and the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Brian Heere hit a ball to right centerfield, clearing the bases. The 3-run double pulled the Captains within two at 7-5.

Lake County pulled a run closer at 7-6, in the sixth, when Luigi Rodriguez drove in Carlos Moncrief with a sacrifice fly to leftfield.

Dayton Marze (5-5) got the win for the Lugnuts working two scoreless innings allowing just two hits, walking two and striking out two. Cole Cook (5-10) took the loss allowing seven runs, five earned in just four innings, walking a career high five and striking out two.

Lake County and Lansing will finish up their series on Monday night at Cooley Law School Stadium at 7:05PM. LHP Kirk Wetmore (2-0) will get the start for the Captains against RHP Tyler Powell (2-1) for the Lugnuts. Catch all the action AM 1330 WELW or online at captainsbaseball.com.
