CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Strong pitching and early scoring propelled the Cedar Rapids Kernels to victory, 6-1, against the Beloit Snappers Sunday afternoon at Perfect Game Field. Starting pitcher Justin La Tempa threw the ball well on just two days rest, allowing one run on three hits over 3.1 innings. Reliever Dakota Robinson (8-2) earned the victory in the game, pitching 3.1 innings of one-hit baseball and striking out three.

Robinson, Donn Roach, and Daniel Tillman all saw action for the Kernels out of the bullpen, combining to allow just three hits and no runs. The Kernels got on the scoreboard early against Snappers starter Adrian Salcedo, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Rolando Gomez roped a triple down the right field line, scoring Travis Witherspoon. Gomez eventually scored on a single by Ricky Alvarez, and Brandon Decker's RBI double scored Justin Bass.

Cedar Rapids added a run in the third inning thanks to a pair of Snappers miscues. Ricky Alvarez doubled on a ball that Beloit centerfielder Daniel Santana lost in the sun, and Alvarez eventually came around to score after Justin Bass reached on an error by second baseman Reggie Williams.

Beloit scored its first run of the game in the fourth on a RBI single by Jairo Perez, but the Kernels answered right back in the bottom of the fourth when Rolando Gomez drove home his second run of the ballgame. The Kernels added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jesus Campos, making the score 6-1. Snappers starter Salcedo (6-6) picked up the loss for Beloit, giving up five runs on eight hits over five innings of work.
