Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits hit a home run to begin the game, and another to end it as the Bandits became 3-1 walk-off winners for the second time on the homestand. This time they took down the Kane County Cougars in front of 2,119 fans at Modern Woodmen Park on Sunday afternoon.
With two outs in the ninth inning, Jonathan Rodriguez (0-for-2) on first following a walk and the score tied at one, Chris Edmondson (3-for-4) took the 2-2 pitch from Kane County reliever Nick Rogers (L, 1-1) over the right field fence to give the Bandits the 3-1 victory.
Kolten Wong (1-for-4) provided the Bandits first run with his third home run of the season in the bottom of the first. The Cougars evened it at one when Brett Eibner homered off Boone Whiting to open the fourth.
Neither starter recorded a decision. Whiting lasted seven innings and allowed just the one run on six hits. He walked two and struck out seven. Greg Billo allowed only one run over six innings for the Cougars. He surrendered four hits and walked two while striking out five.
Dean Kiekhefer (W, 4-1) picked up the win by working three shutout innings to finish the game. He only gave up just two hits and he fanned two over his three frames. Rogers took the loss after allowing the walk-off homer in the ninth.
The River Bandits will wrap up their homestand Monday night with the series finale with Kane County. Hot dogs are just a buck on another Dollar Dog Monday presented by Klements at Modern Woodmen Park. The River Bandits look to win the series with lefty Anthony Ferrara (9-5, 3.21) on the mound against Cougars right-hander Yordano Ventura (2-3, 5.03). First pitch is set for 7:00.
