TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and Erie SeaWolves will meet in game two of a four-game series...The Flying Squirrels managed just one run on two hits in eight innings and struck out eight times against SeaWolves' left-hander Adam Wilk in 4-2, series-opening loss at Jerry Uht Park on Monday night.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Right-hander Craig Westcott gets the start in game two of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Suffered the loss in his last outing at Altoona 8/26...Allowed two runs on five hits in five innings...Struck out four batters and walked three...Retired nine of the first 11 batters that he faced over three scoreless innings...Seven of the final 13 batters he faced reached against him over his last two innings...Recorded eight ground outs and three fly outs...Threw 98 pitches, 59 strikes...Threw 40 pitches combined in his first three innings...Threw 53 pitches combined over his final two innings...Went five innings or more for the seventh time in 11 starts with Richmond...Has received no runs of support during his two losses with Richmond (0 r/10 ip)...Has received 47 total runs of support during his 11 starts with Richmond (4.27 runs per start)...Is 16-2 with a 3.20 ERA (60 er/168.2 ip) in 37 games, 30 starts, as a pro...Team is 25-5 in his 30 career starts.

TRAGIC END: The Flying Squirrels were officially eliminated from playoff contention with last night's loss at Erie...The best possible record for the Flying Squirrels with seven games remaining entering play tonight is 71-70...Harrisburg and Bowie both have 72 wins, a number that is unobtainable for Richmond.
THE DOG DAYS: The Flying Squirrels will finish the month of August with a losing record, the second losing month this season...The club is 11-15 through 26 games this month...Richmond went 10-18 in June...The Flying Squirrels' 4.35 staff ERA is the highest of any month this season and the club's .255 team batting average is third-lowest of any month...Richmond was 7-5 through its first 12 games this month; however, the club has gone 4-10 over its last 14 games since scoring five runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in a 5-4, walk-off win over Portland 8/15.
THE INSIDE SCHOOP: Utility man Sharlon Schoop is hitting .341 (30-for-88) with six doubles, a home run, 15 RBI, and 12 runs scored in 22 games in August...The 23-year-old has raised his batting average with Richmond from .232 to .293 over that stretch...Schoop matched a career-high in hits and set a career-high in RBI after going 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, 6 RBI and two runs scored at Portland 8/8...It was one of three games he drove in three runs or more (8/8, 8/17, 8/23)...He had three three-plus RBI games in 105 contests last season with Double-A Connecticut.
Z-PACK: Catcher Eliezer Zambrano has hits in each of his last four games dating back to his last game with Low-A Augusta 8/15...The 23-year-old is one game shy of matching the longest hit streak of his career since making his domestic debut in 2007...He is 5-for-14 (.357) over that stretch with two doubles, and two runs scored...Zambrano had a five-game hit streak with Arizona Rookie League Giants 8/13/07-8/27/07.
THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal is third in the Eastern League in doubles (39), is tied for third in hits (149), and is fourth in total bases (226)...He leads the team with 42 multi-hit games and is two doubles away from matching his career-high of 41 set last season with Advanced-A San Jose...Ten of his 12 home runs have been hit on the road...Since 6/1, Neal is batting .313 (97-for-310) in 81 games with 28 doubles, nine home runs, 43 RBI, and 50 runs scored...He has raised his batting average from .255 to .292 over that span.
DOWN AND OUT: Since shifting to center field from his usual position at shortstop, Ryan Lormand is 0-for-16 with 11 strikeouts and one walk over his last six games including one pinch-hit at-bat...The 24-year-old has appeared in the outfield in eight games with Richmond including making five starts in center field and one in left...In those eight contests Lormand is 1-for-24 (.042) with 11 strikeouts...In his other 62 games with the Flying Squirrels, he is batting .246 (51-for-207) with 42 strikeouts...Lormand is 1-for-15 (.067) in his career as a pinch hitter.
DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 161 double plays in 134 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The Flying Squirrels have not gone more than three games without a double play this season...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned...Erie is second in the league with 158 double plays turned in 135 games...Ironically, the SeaWolves are also last in the league in fielding percentage (.972) having committed a league-leading 143 errors.
CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Left-hander Jake Stevens dropped to 0-2 in two starts with the Flying Squirrels after last night's 4-2 loss at Erie...The 25-year-old has allowed 4.15 ERA in his two starts and has allowed 11 hits in 8 2/3 innings (.306 OBA).
