ERIE, PA - In eerily similar fashion to their series-opening loss, the Richmond Flying Squirrels fell again, 4-2, to the Erie SeaWolves on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

For the second straight night, the SeaWolves started the ballgame with three consecutive hits, and for the second straight night they left the first inning with a 2-0 lead. Squirrels' right-hander Craig Westcott's first pitch of the night was sent on a line into left field by Alden Carrithers for a single. Brandon Douglas followed with a double into the right-center field alley to put two runners in scoring position with nobody out. Bryan Pounds then sent a two-run single back up the middle for the 2-0 advantage.

The trouble continued for Westcott into the second inning. Billy Nowlin led off the second and cranked a solo-home run to left field to extend the Erie lead to 3-0.

Nowlin took Westcott deep for a second time, leading off the fourth inning, for a 4-0 lead. His second blast of the ballgame was sent over the wall in right field. It marked the second time that Westcott had conceded two home runs to the same batter in a single start. Joel Guzman notched two long-balls off the righty on July 23rd.

Westcott (3-3) didn't survive the fourth, departing after 3 1/3 innings. He surrendered four earned runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out one. The damage could have been worse as Westcott left with one out and the bases loaded, but lefty Andy Sisco got out of the predicament for him.

Richmond got back in the ballgame as they finally broke through against Erie right-hander Anthony Shawler in the fifth inning. Ryan Lormand started the two-out uprising with a single back through the middle and Brock Bond singled to right field behind him. Brad Boyer cut the Erie lead to 4-2 when he rifled a two-run double into the alley in left-center field.

Shawler (5-3) settled back down and worked through the seventh inning, retiring the last seven batters that he faced. He earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits. He walked just one and struck out six.

Sisco and the Squirrels' bullpen kept the game close, as the lefty ultimately worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings. Right-hander Adrian Martin followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings and left David Quinowski got the final out in the eighth.

However, Richmond got no closer after Shawler's departure. Right-hander Jose Ortega worked a scoreless eighth inning and lefty Jay Voss earned his first save of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth. Voss struck out Tyler La Torre to end the ballgame.

Game three of the series is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7:05 PM at Jerry Uht Park. RHP Felix Romero (4-3, 3.55) will make the start for Richmond against RHP Brayan Villarreal (0-4, 4.06) for Erie.
