Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves won their third consecutive game on Tuesday night as they took down the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-2 in the second game of a four-game series at Jerry Uht Park.
The SeaWolves struck in the first inning for the second consecutive night. Alden Carrithers led off with a single and moved into scoring position on Brandon Douglas 17th double against Richmond starter Craig Westcott. Bryan Pounds singled up the middle, plating both baserunners for a 2-0 lead.
The 'Wolves would take a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Billy Nowlin led off and connected on his fourth home run. The solo shot was Erie's first long ball since August 20.
Erie went ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Nowlin led off and connected on an opposite-field home run to right for his fifth homer of the season. He is the first SeaWolf to have a multi-home run game since Pounds accomplished the feat July 6 against Bowie.
Richmond cut the Erie lead in half in the top of the fifth against 'Wolves starter Anthony Shawler. With two outs, Ryan Lormand and Brock Bond each singled. Brad Boyer doubled to the gap in left field, bringing home both Lormand and Bond, making it a 4-2 game.
Shawler gave way to the bullpen in the eighth. Righty Jose Ortega tossed a scoreless eighth while Jay Voss earned his first save tossing a scoreless ninth.
Shawler (5-3) allowed two runs on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts while equaling a season-high tossing seven innings. Erie has now won four of the last five games started by Shawler.
The SeaWolves will look for their fourth consecutive win on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.7:05 First Pitch. Righty Brayan Villarreal (0-4, 4.06 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Felix Romero (4-3, 3.55 ERA).
