July 23, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
Rich Thompson, one of the most recognizable and successful players in IronPigs history, emerged as the winner in a season-long fan vote contest and will be recognized on a T-Shirt jersey giveaway presented by AT&T for the first 3,000 adults 18 and older attending the IronPigs-Red Wings 1:35 p.m. game on Sunday, Sept. 6 at Coca-Cola Park. The T-Shirt jersey depicts Thompson's IronPigs home white jersey and features his name and number (12) draped across the back.
Thompson received the most votes after tabulating all the entries via social media and the AT&T Fan Vote entry form in the IronPigs Pork Illustrated Game Day Program. The voting results are featured below:
Rich Thompson (34.4%)
Andy Tracy (30.3%)
Maikel Franco (19.3%)
Steve Susdorf (10.1%)
Brandon Moss (4.2%)
Tyler Cloyd (1.7%)
Two contest entrants drawn at random -- Sofia Mathews of Nesquehoning and Natalie Miller of Northampton - each won a "Batting Practice VIP" experience compliments of AT&T for the Sept. 6 game featuring the opportunity to watch batting practice from the dugout, a pair of Front Row tickets, two IronPigs caps and a $25 IronPigs Gift Card.
Thompson spent parts of five seasons with the IronPigs beginning with the club's inaugural 2008 season and remains the franchise leader in a wide array of categories. In fact, he currently ranks as the leader in games played (469), hits (452), doubles (83), triples (26), runs (244) and stolen bases (134). He swiped a franchise-record 48 bases in 2011 - the most by a Phillies Triple-A farmhand since Bob Dernier recorded 72 in 1981. Dating back to 1989, Thompson has amassed more career triples (26) than any other Phillies Triple-A player. In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Thompson was extremely active in the Lehigh Valley community during his tenure with the IronPigs, spending much of his free time assisting in IronPigs Charities initiatives or other community-oriented events.
