Bats Beat Clippers, 7-4 in 100th Game of Season

LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats (48-52) tied the split series with a 7-4 win over the Columbus Clippers (54-45). After the Clippers took the first two games in Columbus, the Bats took both games in Louisville to halve the series. Brennan Boesch and Chris Berset led the way on Thursday with two RBI each.

The Bats scored a run early in the first inning after taking advantage of an error by Clippers shortstop Erik Gonzalez. Scoring on the play was Hernan Iribarren who singled to lead off the inning, increasing his hit streak to eight games.

The flood gates broke open for Louisville in the second inning as four consecutive Bats singled to start the inning, with Boesch capping the stretch of base knocks with a two-run single. The Bats added another run when Berset was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Kyle Waldrop earned hit a sac fly to center that increased the lead to 5-0. The wheels came off for the Columbus after a single by Ryan LaMarre scored Jermaine Curtis and an error by Roth scored Berset. After two innings, the Bats led 7-0 over the Clippers.

Columbus put up their first run in the top of the fourth with an RBI double by Jerry Sands, scoring Lonnie Chisenhall.

Left-hander David Holmberg (W, 7-6, 4.40) held the Clippers to seven hits through six innings, and surrendered just one earned run and struck out four in his outing.

Righty Michael Roth (L, 7-6, 4.16) went five innings for the Clippers and gave up nine hits, seven runs, six of which were earned, walked three batters and struck out seven.

Columbus tried to rally back in the ninth scoring three runs, but the Bats offense overcame them, winning 7-4.

Tomorrow Louisville will travel to Indianapolis for a split series starting at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Keyvius Sampson (1-4, 6.39) will start on the bump for the Bats and for the Indians, right-hander Radhames Liz (2-2, 1.44).
