RHP Justin Grimm Recalled to Texas; C Juan Apodaca Traded to Tampa Bay

Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers have made a couple of roster moves that will impact the roster of their Triple-A affiliate, the Round Rock Express, the teams announced Thursday.

The Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Justin Grimm and traded catcher Juan Apodaca to Tampa Bay for cash considerations. Grimm is slated to start tonight for the Rangers against the Mariners. He is the second Round Rock pitcher to get the call-up after Opening Day starter Nick Tepesch got promoted on April 9.

Grimm started one game for the Express this season, going 5.2 innings and giving up one run on four hits against the Omaha Storm Chasers. He walked two batters and struck out four en route to his first win of the season. The 24-year-old split time between Double-A Frisco, Round Rock and the Rangers in 2012, compiling a 12-7 record with a 3.39 ERA (148.2ip/56er).

Additionally, the Rangers have sent catcher Juan Apodaca to the Tampa Bay Rays for cash considerations. Apodaca, who was on the disabled list with Round Rock, has been assigned to the Rays Triple-A affiliate Durham Bulls.

With these moves, the Express roster sits at 24 active players, one below the Pacific Coast League limit, with one on the disabled list.

The Express will take the field for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch against the I-Cubs tonight for the final game of a season-opening eight-game home stand. Come celebrate the Original Thirsty Thursday with discounted draft beer and $1 sodas. Outfielder Engel Beltre will receive his 2012 Minor League Rawlings Gold Glove ® award before the start of tonight's game.
